Packed church for Messiah

On Saturday, February 26, singers from far and wide arrived at St Andrew’s Parish Church to join the Waverley Singers for their ‘Come and Sing’ Messiah.
The body of the church was filled with some 160 singers with the audience of 103 squeezed at the side of the gallery. Facing the choir were four excellent young soloists from the Royal Academy of Music – Jennifer France, Fiona Mackay, Ian Milne and Alistair Ollerenshaw, the whole thing accompanied by Ian Farrington on the organ.
After two fairly brief rehearsal sessions, the performance began at 6 pm. The sound from such a huge choir was amazing and under conductor Richard Pearce‘s direction nobody put a foot (or note) wrong.
Financially too the day was a great success, easily covering costs, and a bucket collection at the end raised £370 for the church.
The next Waverley Singers concert will be a performance of Carmina Burana at the Farnham Maltings on April 3.
