The first article below, which appeared shortly before the concert, states that the choir started recruiting for male voices in February 1959. In fact we know it was before then, in November 1958 (see report of concert on 21 December 1958).
The second article reveals that John Cotterill completed his military service on the Wednesday before this concert!
In the first concert review of two, below, there is an amusing (to a present-day reader at least) reference to "the little known 'Requiem Mass' by Fauré"!
