The Waverley Singers' annual Christmas Concert, held on December 7 at Saint Andrew's Parish Church, fully captured the spirit of a traditional Christmas with a selection of carols and readings.
The Mayor of Farnham, Paddy Blagden, began the evening with a presentation of a cheque for £250 from Farnham Town Council towards the Commission of a work called ‘The Mind That Lives’ by will Todd to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of William Cobbett.
The concert included works by Holst, Chilcott, Vaughan Williams and Stanford together with well-known audience carols. The choir, conducted with evident enjoyment by Richard Pearce, was joined by baritone Nicholas Beever and organist James McVinnie.
John Wilmot, an ambassador for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, gave a short talk in the interval to the capacity audience to explain its work, and a retiring collection raised £649.
