The Waverley Singers

The Waverley Singers Opera Gala at the Farnham Maltings was much appreciated by an enthusiastic audience, including the Mayor of Waverley Borough Council and the Deputy Mayor of Farnham Town Council.
The choir was on top form under the inspiring direction of Richard Pearce, and was expertly accompanied by Jakob Rothoff. A varied programme demonstrated the choir's ability to master many different operatic styles and languages.
The Waverley Singers were clearly having fun as well as working together to great musical effect. The tenors and basses demonstrated a rich tone in their Wagner extract, and the altos and sopranos caught the lilting mood of their Tchaikovsky song.
Vocal fireworks came from the talented trio of young soloists who were generously supported by the Josephine Baker Trust. Especially memorable were Stephanie Wake-Edwards as a sultry Carmen, Glenn Cunningham’s expressive Don Ottavio Aria, and Adam Maxey portraying a heroic Figaro.
Locally based charity the Simon Trust benefited from a retiring collection.
